There is no biggest employer in Indian internships. We checked all 14,004.
We went looking for the biggest employer of interns in India. We could not find one, and that turned out to be the most useful thing we learned all year.
Across 20,392 internship postings there were 14,004 different companies hiring. The single largest posted 268 internships. That is 1.3% of the market. The next 63 companies together get you to 6.3%.

Over half the market hires exactly one intern
53.3% of every internship posting we saw came from a company that posted once and never came back. Not once a quarter. Once, ever, in the whole period.
This is the number that should change how you job hunt, and it is the opposite of every piece of advice we were given. You are told to research companies, build a shortlist, follow them, engage with their posts, apply thoughtfully to twenty places you admire. That is good advice for a market where employers hire repeatedly and predictably. It is close to useless in a market where the median employer is a twelve-person company that needs one person this month.
Put the two numbers together and it gets stark. The 64 biggest employers in the country account for 6.3% of internships. Companies hiring a single person account for 53.3%. If your entire strategy is aimed at recognisable names, you are competing hardest for the smallest slice.
Why this happens
We think it is mostly that Indian startups and small firms have started hiring interns as a normal thing rather than an HR programme. There is no intern cohort, no summer scheme, no campus visit. Somebody is drowning, they need help, they post about it, they hire whoever replies well, and it is over in a week.
Big companies still run structured internship programmes and those still matter - they pay better and they look better on a CV. There are just not very many of them relative to everything else.
What to actually do about it
- Stop maintaining a target company list for internships. It is optimising the 6% and ignoring the 53%.
- Optimise instead for coverage and speed. Seeing a posting on day one matters more than admiring the company.
- Accept that you will apply to companies you have never heard of. That is not settling, that is where the market is.
- Keep exactly one or two structured programmes on your list if you want a brand name. Treat them as lottery tickets with good odds rather than as the plan.
- Because these employers hire once, there is no "apply again next cycle". If you miss it, it is gone.

How we counted
20,392 internship postings collected mostly between April and July 2026, grouped by the company name attached to each posting, giving 14,004 distinct companies.
Company names are normalised but not perfectly. Two spellings of the same firm will count as two companies, which pushes the one-posting share slightly up and the concentration slightly down. We have not tried to correct for it because any fix would involve us guessing which names are the same company, and we would rather report the flaw than hide it behind a judgement call. The direction of the error is stated so you can discount for it.
The one caveat that matters most: 98.3% of these postings were picked up from public posts on LinkedIn rather than from company career pages. That is the slice of the market Hopin was built to find, but it means this describes the hidden job market rather than every internship in India. Campus drives and roles that only appear on a company's own careers site are largely absent.
Numbers here are recomputed each time we publish, so a later issue may differ from this one. If you find something wrong, tell us and we will correct it in place and say that we did.
